Why should anybody read your books when there are so many others written by famous authors?
Just because they’re famous doesn’t always mean they’re great. Readers like to read books! Some readers like to go out of the box.
Some writers have additional talents. Tell readers about yours.
I carve marble (stone) and pull original prints off the stones, as well as 3-D sculptures.
Who is your favorite author, photographer, and sculptor?
- One of my favorite novelists is Edward Abbey; Charles Eisenstein, Brian Swimme, Pema Chödrön
- Richard Avedon – photographer
- Sculptor – Rodin, Michelangelo, of course.
If someone decided to sculpt a marble statue to honor you, what would you want it to show you doing?
Sculpting!
Most authors believe they have original ideas that no one else has used. Can you give us an example of one of your original ideas?
I have to think about this one.
What’s the nicest thing anybody ever said about your writing??
That’s a tough one! There are many. This one makes me smile.
“The Last Garage Sale”…..an intriguing book; far more complex than the simple story it first appears…..a statement of principles and a charting of contemporary philosophy. This is a good story, always warm and a little sad. Hopeful.
What senses do you use when you write?
I listen to my heart, and feel compassion for whom I am writing about and edit, edit, edit!
If I could only read one thing that you’d written, what would you suggest?
Maybe “The Last Garage Sale.” It’s shorter than the rest. Everybody seems to have an awe about it, how unusual the subject is. It’s a true story!
What experiences have shaped you into the person you are today?
Backpacking. Divorce. Learning to sculpt in stone. Raising three daughters. And losing my husband after 49 years of collaboration, creativity, and love.
What are your areas of expertise?
Carving marble. Backpacking. My daughter and I backpacked for 27 years in the mountains. That’s what “Crossing the Boundary” is all about.
What are you working on now?
“Sculpting for Peace” is a book I am writing. I have a first draft and am starting the edit. I have been working on five pieces (P-E-A-C-E) of marble: they are large, 100-pound slabs measuring 2’ high x 1’ wide x 4” deep, each of the letters of PEACE. I started in 2007 and am still working on them. A lot of time went into research, getting permissions for quotes, etc.
What advice do you have for people who want to become professional authors?
WRITE
