ONE THING AFTER ANOTHER AND THEN A LIFE-SAVING TRANSITION
Why did you become a writer?
I love to write and tell stories. I started doing scripts for my marionette theater, then stories for our grandchildren. After that, I wrote my memoir.
Why should anybody read your books when there are so many others written by famous authors?
It’s filled with very unusual adventures-all absolutely true. I’ve been told my readers often feel they are the ones who experience all the crazy things that happened to me and my family. There’s a different sort of coronation, a wartime bombing mission, how NASA got to know us well, and sailing. (You’ve heard of Pirates, haven’t you? How about 12 with machine guns? Do you know how dangerous a cruise ship can be?
A life-saving event changed my life completely, and readers will know how it feels to have a director, cameraman, and sound man invade your home for a week to film a Discovery Channel Documentary.
How has the Air Force affected your life?
My father and husband were career Air Force officers, which meant we moved often. I learned people and customs are different in every U.S. state and Canadian province. Adjusting to each is interesting for children and adults. (Visit as many as you can. Every one of them has interesting histories, things to do and see, and places for many adventures.
You’ve faced hardships from the time of your birth. Can you share some with readers?
I was asthmatic, nearly sucked into a tornado, survived a killer earthquake, a doctor who operated on the wrong side, scissors someone else carried that knocked out most of my front teeth, and a bad car accident caused by someone else. I had cancer twice, pirates with machine guns, a knockdown at sea, a very dangerous cruise ship, several medical issues, and a Life-saving event that changed my life completely.
What are some unusual things that have happened to you that could appear in a future book?
Touring, sailing, lecturing on a variety of subjects, working for newspapers across the country, advertising, holding office on various community boards, and participating in many events.
What are some interesting places you have traveled to?
I’ve visited, or lived in, every state, except Vermont, as well as going to many provinces in Canada. I’ve visited more than half of the US and Canadian national parks. Sailing the coastal and Gulf Coast of the US and lived and sailed extensively in the Bahamas. I advise everyone should go to as many places as they can. Living in them and exploring is FUN.
What jobs have you held?
I’ve been a swimming coach, lifeguard, gymnastics coach, actress, lecturer, advertising executive, script writer, & member of community boards for several years. (Plus writing groups)
Child, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, lover of family and friends, plus many dogs and other animals. And, of course, author.
What events have made you into the person you are today?
See all of what’s above!) Mostly, though, I live my life as an adventure. Every day can be exactly that. It’s the way one chooses to look and experience life that colors what we’ll become. How we view things is what makes each of us unique and valuable.
If you could spend a day with any author on the planet, who would you spend it with and why?
Robert Jordan, Terry Goodkind, Terry Pratchett. Each one is unique, interesting, and a delight to read. All of them wrote multiple books with epic adventures in fictitious worlds. (There are so many more great authors.)
What do you want readers to get out of your stories, letters to the editor, and books?
Resilience.
Look forward to each day and enjoy life and its adventures.
I know you are a prolific writer. What are your favorite comments about your writing?
I love to write and read. I work hard, learn something about writing every day, and try to make my book or story interesting for those who will read it.
If someone wants to purchase your books, how can they do this?
It’s on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
What advice do you have for people who want to become professional authors?
Keep writing. Don’t give up. Have fun doing it. Remember, though, it’s hard work.
